Mrs. Deal will offer remarks on her hopes and goals for education. A retired Georgia public school teacher, Mrs. Deal taught for more than 15 years泭in Hall County.泭She has made literacy one of her top priorities, launching the泭Read Across Georgia tour which has taken her to 159 counties and 181 school districts to encourage student reading.泭To date, Mrs. Deal has visited more than 320 schools, including KIPP STRIVE Primary, encouraging students to love reading and become life-long learners. Like her husband, the First Lady believes a good education is the key to future success.
Richard L. Woods is a former classroom teacher with more than 22 years of experience in K-12 education.A graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Woods泭holds a Bachelor’s in secondary education social studies from Kennesaw State University and a Master’s in educational leadership and supervision from Valdosta State University.泭Mr. Woods worked for the Irwin County School System for over twenty-two years.泭 泭 泭泭
During the course of his campaign Mr. Woods completed泭a 91勛圖泭survey on chartering. His responses indicated泭full throated support for broad flexibility and autonomy for startup charters, for autonomous charter school governance, equitable funding,泭and a willingness to recommend sanctions on districts of state authorizers not complying with Georgia’s charter school laws. We consider Mr. Woods to be a friend of charter schools and K-12 innovation and look forward to his Welcome Remarks when the Conference kicks off at 8:15 am.泭
